Thinsulate™ Acoustic Insulation from 3M

Thinsulate™ Acoustic Insulation from 3M is a lightweight polyester/polypropylene blended non-woven material which has excellent sound absorbing characteristics. The hydrophobic nature of the material lends itself to use in humid and moist applications as well as most interior trim areas.

Typical application areas

Interior trim including instrument panels, doors (wet side and dry side), pillars, headlinings and luggage sides. It is also used to help reduce noise in areas around the HVAC or around various types of noise generating devices within the vehicle such as electric seat motors and vacuum pumps.

Material Characteristics

  • Weight: Ranging from 100g/m² to 640 g/m²
  • Thickness: Ranging from 8mm to 42mm
  • Composition: Blend of polyester staple fibres and polypropylene microfibres
  • Colour: White web with various scrim options
  • Flammability: Meets FMVSS 302 (DIN75 200, ISO 3795 (1976))
  • Typical temperature stability: Varies from 90°C to 120°C depending on grade
