Autins Group back National Champions.
A student team from WMG Academy have been crowned F1 In Schools UK Champions and have won a place at the World Finals in Malaysia.
The UK Finals of the F1 in Schools competition took place at Silverstone at the end of March and Academy Racing (WMG Academy’s team) won becoming the UK F1 in Schools champions for 2017 and gaining a space at the World Finals later this year in Kuala Lumpur.
The team included:
Abi Hirons – Graphics Designer
Callum Kennedy – Marketing Manager
Eddie Hodierne – Team Manager
Elias Khimasia – Design Engineer
F1 in Schools is a challenging two-day competition that requires the students to create their own Formula 1 team. They are required to design, construct and race the fastest miniature Formula 1 Car of the Future – a 21cm long scale model created using state of the art design and manufacturing technology. It is powered by a compressed air cylinder and reaches speeds in excess of 50mph over a 20m track. Creating the fastest car is not the only aspect of the competition, the teams have to produce a portfolio of their work, create a ‘pit display’ and deliver a verbal presentation.
In addition to winning the honour of representing the UK at the World Finals and a rather nice trophy, the team also won:
- Two £5,000 a year bursaries to study mechanical engineering at UCL
- Tickets for the Grand Prix at Silverstone
- An exclusive tour of the pits at the Grand Prix
- A factory tour with an F1 team
- A Denford CNC router, worth £10,000
- Trophies for the Fastest Car and winning the knockout racing
Autins are proud to support the future generation of engineers. The team passed on their thanks to all sponsors:
“None of this would have been possible without our sponsors and we are indebted to our sponsors for their help and support.”
